The Places section contains a series of essays for a few native grasslands that feature a plant, animal or bit of human history associated with them that may be of general interest. Some early classic research in prairie ecology, which often stimulated basic principles in the science of ecology itself, is also presented. Finally, the Grassland Gallery contains a small gallery of images of prairie plants and landscapes.
