This website, www.1001prairies.com, contains a directory with location information and external links for over a thousand prairies, savannas and barrens within the United States and Canada.  The sheer number of these links represents a compelling story in conservation and volunteerism. 

Native grasslands that may have a particularly interesting plant, animal or bit of human history associated with them are described in the Places section.  The ecology of the prairie has served to stimulate many of the basic principles of the science of ecology itself, some of this early classic research is also presented.
